The Science 8 curriculum has been designed to incorporate the core competencies through the study of content while developing skills called curricular competencies. We will be working on many different topics and skills in this class. The following highlights essential areas for students to reflect on their strengths and areas for growth during their studies.

  • making observations about the natural world through the study of the electromagnetic spectrum

  • making predictions through the study of behaviours of light

  • co-operatively designing projects through the study of mirrors & lenses

  • communicating ideas using representations through the study of heat transfer

  • using scientific knowledge and findings to evaluate claims in secondary sources through the study of plate tectonics

  • contributing to care for self, others, community, and world through the study of earthquakes and volcanoes
