CURRICULAR & CORE COMPETENCIES

The Science 9 curriculum has been designed to incorporate the core competencies through the study of content while developing skills called curricular competencies. We will be working on many different topics and skills in this class. The following highlights essential areas for students to reflect on their strengths and areas for growth during their studies.

  • assessing risks and addressing ethical, cultural and/or environmental issues through the study of hydroelectricity & commercial energy production

  • ensuring that safety guidelines are followed in their investigations through the study of electrical circuits

  • consider the role of scientists in innovation through the study of electricity in the home

  • contributing to care for self, others, community, and world through the study of sustainability

  • demonstrating an awareness of assumptions, questioning information given, and identifying bias in their own work and secondary sources through the study of climate change

  • experiencing and interpreting the local environment through the study of the spheres of the Earth & ecosystems

  • applying First Peoples perspectives and knowledge, other ways of knowing, and local knowledge as sources of information through the study of invasive species

  • analyzing patterns, trends, and connections in data through the study of matter cycling
